Code of Conduct

The Race Matters Unconference Planning Committee welcomes and supports all Unconference participants as we navigate these difficult conversations together. We ask that you abide by the following guidelines to help us create a productive, challenging and mutually supportive space.

Participation in discussions and activities should be respectful at all times. All are expected to exercise tolerance of the perspectives and opinions of all present. If you are accustomed to taking up space in a gathering, consider sitting back and listening for a while to allow others to enter and participate in the space. If you are one who usually sits back, consider lending your voice to the discussion. For everyone, be thoughtful about how you use the space and be willing to share it with others.

Please be mindful that not everyone is willing to have their images, thoughts, or ideas shared beyond the event space. Use discretion with photographs, recordings, and sharing. Ask before sharing someone’s image, thoughts, or ideas outside the event.

We will not tolerate harassment in any form. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event. We will assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. If you are being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact an event organizer immediately.

As conference participants, we ask that you bring an open mind and willingness to learn. We acknowledge that each of us experiences race in our professional and personal lives and is at a different place in our personal and professional growth. Please consider how you will learn and grow at this event and how you can support others on their path as well.

Be willing to make a shift in your behavior. Be ready to leave with an action.
